Most materials don't need conditioning right before the pellet mill — they just need a consistent feed rate. The PSM delivers exactly that. A simplified, cost-efficient feeder with a large hopper that handles upstream fluctuations and gives your mill somewhere to go when it over-feeds. No unnecessary complexity. Just a system that works.
The PSM platform is available in several configurations to match different pellet mill installations and production requirements. While each system can be customized to fit the application, 3MT currently offers four core PSM feeder models.
PSM feeders are designed to handle a wide range of pelletizable materials used in industrial pellet production. The screw-based metering system and hopper design allow the feeder to maintain stable material discharge even when handling materials with different densities and flow characteristics.
PSM systems have been used in pellet production processes involving materials such as:
• Wood and biomass materials
• Animal feed ingredients
• Fertilizer blends
• Compost and soil products
• Recycled plastics and polymer materials
• Agricultural byproducts
• Industrial fiber materials
Many pellet mills are traditionally equipped with vertically mounted force feeders and conditioners designed for wood pellet production. While those systems are effective for certain applications, many pellet operations working with feed, fertilizer, plastics, or other materials do not require that level of conditioning or mechanical complexity.
In these situations, a simpler and more flexible feeding approach can often provide better control of material flow while making the pellet mill easier to operate and maintain.
The PSM feeder platform was developed to provide a practical alternative for pellet plants that need stable material feeding without the complications of large vertically mounted feeder systems.
Unlike traditional force feeders, the PSM feeder is mounted in front of the pellet mill and can be rolled completely out of the way when access to the mill doors is required. This allows operators to perform maintenance and inspections without removing large pieces of feeding equipment from the mill.
The PSM hopper also provides a large, open feeding area that allows multiple material streams to be introduced into the system. Material can be fed directly from conveyors, blenders, re-feed systems, or other upstream equipment while the screw feeder maintains controlled discharge into the pellet mill.
This layout simplifies the feeding process while still allowing operators to maintain stable pellet mill loading and consistent production.
Because materials behave differently from plant to plant, the PSM hopper can be equipped with several optional attachments designed to improve material handling performance.
These attachments allow the base PSM platform to be adapted to a wide range of pellet production environments.
Optional hopper features may include:
• Agitator assemblies for materials that tend to bridge or pack in the hopper
• Block inserts for starve-feed configurations
• Multiple feed inlets for blending material streams or incorporating re-feed
• Custom hopper sizes for increased material buffering
• Specialized discharge configurations depending on mill layout
These options allow operators to tailor the PSM feeder to their specific material characteristics and pellet mill setup while keeping the overall feeding system simple and easy to maintain.
• Pellet mills that do not require heavy conditioning systems
• Facilities looking for a simpler pellet mill feeding layout
• Plants that need better access to pellet mill doors for maintenance
• Systems where multiple material feeds need to enter the pellet mill
• Operations that want improved control of pellet mill feed rates
• Plants upgrading or redesigning pellet mill feed systems
