LIW / GIW METERING SYSTEM

Accurate Ingredient Batching for Mixing Systems

3MT develops loss-in-weight and gain-in-weight metering systems designed for controlled ingredient batching into mixers and blending systems used in pellet production and bulk material processing.

These systems allow operators to meter multiple ingredients accurately while maintaining stable batch consistency for powders, fertilizers, plastics, and other bulk materials.

Discuss a Metering System

Large-Volume Batch Metering

Built for High-Capacity Batch Systems

3MT LIW systems are designed for larger batch applications where multiple ingredients must be accurately metered into a mixer or blender.

Typical systems utilize 2 to 12 independent feeders, allowing operators to control ingredient ratios while maintaining consistent batch weights.

Each feeder is mounted on load cells and discharges a controlled amount of material into a collection screw that transfers the batch into a ribbon blender or mixer.

This configuration allows multiple materials to be accurately combined before blending while keeping the batching process stable and repeatable.

Modular PSM Metering Feeders

3MT metering systems utilize the same feeder platform used in the PSM pellet mill feeding systems. This modular approach allows batching systems to be scaled depending on the required batch size and material characteristics.

Three primary feeder sizes are typically used within LIW systems.

PSM MINI — Small Batch Ingredients

Used for minor ingredients and smaller batch additions.

Typical batch sizes:

5 – 75 lb per batch

These feeders are commonly used for additives or materials that must be introduced in smaller controlled quantities.

PSM 200 — Medium Batch Ingredients

Designed for mid-range batching applications where moderate quantities of material must be metered into the mixer.

Typical batch sizes:

100 – 1,000 lb per batch

PSM XL — Large Batch Ingredients

Used for large volume ingredient additions in high-capacity batching systems.

Typical batch sizes:

500 – 3,000 lb per batch

Actual batch size depends on material density and system configuration.

Handling Difficult or Variable Materials

Materials used in blending operations often vary in flow characteristics. Some powders and materials tend to bridge, pack, or stick inside hoppers.

For this reason, 3MT feeders can be equipped with optional features designed to maintain stable material flow.

Available options include:

• Independent agitator drives for difficult or sticky materials
• Dump bin loading for bulk material transfer
• Super sack systems with vibration stands
• Custom hopper configurations depending on material behavior

Because agitators are independently driven, they do not interfere with the load cell weight readings used for batching accuracy.

Integrated Batching Systems

In a typical system layout, multiple LIW feeders discharge their measured material into a collection screw conveyor.

The collection screw then transfers the combined batch into a ribbon blender or mixer, where materials are blended before entering downstream processes such as pellet production or packaging.

This layout allows precise ingredient control while maintaining efficient material flow throughout the batching process.

Gain-In-Weight Metering

3MT GIW systems utilize the same PSM feeder platforms but operate differently from LIW systems.

Instead of discharging a predetermined amount of material, gain-in-weight systems measure the material as it is added to the hopper or feeder.

Incoming material is supplied by upstream conveyors, and the system automatically stops material flow when the target weight is reached.

This approach allows the feeders to work directly with upstream conveying systems while maintaining controlled batch weights.

Materials Commonly Processed

3MT batching systems are used across a wide range of bulk material industries including:

• fertilizer blending
• plastic pellet blending
• powder and dry material batching
• soil and compost products
• agricultural and industrial materials

System configuration can be adjusted depending on material density and handling characteristics.

Control & Automation

3MT batching systems utilize PLC-based control platforms to coordinate feeder operation, weight monitoring, and batch sequencing.

Operators can select pre-programmed batch recipes through the control interface and initiate the batching process, allowing the system to automatically meter each ingredient according to the specified formulation.

Control panels are professionally designed and built to integrate feeder controls, load cell measurements, and batching logic into a centralized automation system tailored to each installation.

Discuss Your Batching System

If your process requires accurate ingredient batching or improved material control before mixing or pellet production, 3MT can help develop a practical metering system tailored to your operation.
